At the annual general meeting of the Long Eaton and District Arts Council held on Monday of last week (21st March) all the officers and executive committee were re-elected en bloc. Leon Wade, Chairman of the Council, told the Trader: “This is a real boost for our confidence. At the meeting we were able to share our thoughts and plans with a good turnout of members. They now know in detail about our plans and exactly how much it is we have to raise. £818,000 is an awful lot of money but we be lieve it is within our reach.”
Management
Committee Chairman Mike Beedham revealed that plans were currently in
hand to extend the facilities in the Devonshire Suite.
He told the meeting: “We are going to extend the room so much
so that we will not only will we be able to stage smaller productions
but we will have a superb facility for anyone wishing to book a fully
licensed room for functions, meetings and parties.
Great use of the Devonshire Suite by outside groups and
organisations will all help towards our fundraising goal.”
Consultant
Director of Fundraising Graham Smith told the meeting: “There are
least 30 or more good reasons why we must succeed and get our theatre
rebuilt. Those 30 or more
reasons are the Young Performers Group along with the many other
talented youngsters who appear and belong to our groups.
They are our future and they are the ones who will truly benefit
from what we are doing.” |
