Coronavirus: Theatre closure update August 2020

Regretfully due to the continuing virus situation and Government instructions, the Duchess Theatre is to remain closed until further notice.

The Culture Minister recently said during a radio interview that the government would “only give guidance to resume performances without social distancing when it is safe to do so, and the Prime Minister has indicated that it will be November at the earliest

Sad news, and so, like all theatres in the land, we have to wait for that announcement which hopefully will give us all an indication to when we may resume our operations, but we remain optimistic.

Please be assured that it is still our intention to re-open the theatre for public performances as soon as Government guidelines or regulations permit and that any restrictions or conditions which may be imposed can be dealt with and managed in a responsible and safe manner.

The welcome re-opening of the Saturday coffee morning is unaffected and will continue as advertised.

Our thoughts are with the many performers and performing groups who themselves are struggling to come to terms with the situation, and we thank them for their patience and understanding.  The centre has worked hard with them all to iron out any difficulties, and have been as helpful as possible.

To you our members, supporters, Theatre goers and friends, thank you for your patience, the support which you have shown, and for the many offers of kindness.

We will all enjoy coming to the Duchess again, hopefully in the not too distant future. Keep a lookout on our social media and this site, which will be updated as soon as there are any developments.
